Coffee Brewing Guide
There are several main factors that will affect the flavor of a coffee brew:
1. Coffee-to-Water Ratio
2. Coffee Grind
3. Water Quality and Brew Temperature
4. Brew Extraction Time
As a general rule, although this can be modified based on an individual’s preference, add a well-rounded tablespoon of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of water, or 60 grams per liter of water. The Speciality Coffee Association of America recommends a 16:1 ratio, that is approximately 1 oz (28g) coffee per 16 oz (453g) water or 1.6 – 2.0 grams of coffee per fluid ounce of water.
The water used to brew coffee will definitely affect the flavor, so it is best to use filtered or bottle water, especially if the tap water available does not smell or taste good. The water temperature during brew time should be between 195 – 205 degrees Fahrenheit.
